Annie Malone Welcomes St. Louis to its
Open House and Website Launch
St. Louis, MO - The Friends of Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center will
host a community Open House and officially launch the agency's updated website on
Thursday, January 17, 2008 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Annie Malone.
All of St. Louis is invited to come and join staff and friends in the celebration of the 120-
year history of the agency, learn more about the range of services offered and take a tour
of the agency's new look on the web. Light refreshments will be served.
"We are looking forward to opening our doors to St. Louis," said Richard L. King, Chief
Executive Officer of Annie Malone. "There is much to be thankful for and we're anxious
to share it," he said.
In 2007, Annie Malone was awarded a contract to provide food service in St. Louis City
Hall - Annie M. Cafe. The Cafe serves breakfast, lunch and snacks to City employees and
City Hall visitors. Annie Malone was also awarded a contract from the state of Missouri
for a Transitional Living Program to provide housing and life skills to teenagers 16-20
years old. Annie Malone continues to serve more than 1,000 children and families
annually through its residential treatment services, day care, family focus and parent
enhancement workshops, therapeutic school and food and catering service-Annie M. Fine
Cuisine.
Annie Malone first opened its doors in 1888 as the St. Louis Colored Orphan's Home
with a dedication to helping orphaned and neglected children. In 1946 in tribute to the
loyalty of one of its board members, philanthropist Annie M. Turnbo Pope Malone, the
St. Louis Colored Orphans Home was renamed as Annie Malone Children's Home. The
Home's name changed again in 1993 to Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center
in response to the growth and diversity of its services.

2008 May Day Activities to Commemorate 120th Anniversary of Annie Malone
St. Louis, Missouri - Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center's Board of
Directors and May Day Committee have officially scheduled the 2008 May Day activities
for Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18. Activities will begin with the traditional
Kickoff Barbecue, to be held Friday, April 25 in Kiener Plaza and will conclude with the
May Day Parade and McDonald's May Day Bluesfest. This year's activities will
commemorate Annie Malone's 120th anniversary of service to the community.
The barbecue will feature celebrity servers, a new addition to this year's kickoff activity.
Leaders of local companies, principals, teachers, community leaders, family advocates,
ministers, entertainers and the like will dedicate their time serving barbecue in support of
Annie Malone's fundraising efforts.
The Soiree, an awards banquet honoring persons who have given significant service to
children, will be held Friday, May 16, at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel. The Soiree will
also include a silent auction. The Gospel Celebration featuring local gospel singers,
choirs and praise dance groups will follow on Saturday, May 17, at Antioch Baptist
Church in the historic Ville neighborhood. The parade will conclude the activities on
Sunday, May 18, taking the route along Market Street between 20th Street and Broadway
in downtown St. Louis. The McDonald's May Day Bluesfest will immediately follow the
parade in Kiener Plaza. The May Day activities will celebrate the theme, 'Together We
Stand".
"We are delighted that the May Day activities are a part of Annie Malone's 120-year
history in the St. Louis community," said Delsie Boyd, Chairman of the 2008 May Day
Committee. "That makes this year's events even more special," he said.
As in past years, the May Day Parade will feature marching bands, dance teams, floats
and motorcades. Entry fees for the parade are: $300 for dump trucks and diesel trucks,
$250 for floats, $85 for motorcycles, $60 for horses (each), $60 for multi-cultural
performing groups, and marching units (school bands) are no charge. Vendor reservations
are available for a fee of $150. All vendors are expected to display a vendor permit issued
by Annie Malone and shall be responsible for securing all required permits from the city
of St. Louis. Parade and vendor booth applications are now available.
"We are looking forward to seeing beautiful floats, out-of-state bands and family-oriented
entertainment this year," Boyd said. "We want to continue to make history with all of our
May Day activities," he said.
May Day activities are the largest and only fund-raiser Annie Malone hosts each year.
Funds raised during the activities go to support the programs and services that help to
improve the quality of life for children and families in the St. Louis community. The May
Day Parade is the second largest and oldest African-American parade in the nation.

Annie Malone Children and Family Service Center Earns Reaccreditation
St. Louis, MO - Annie Malone Children & Family Service Center has recently received
notification that it has been reaccredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).
COA accreditation attests that an organization meets the highest national standards and is
delivering the best quality services to the community it serves. Annie Malone is proud to
join COA's Community of Excellence that includes more than 1,000 private and public
organizations that serve over 6,000,000 children, individuals, and families in the United
States and Canada.
"We are thrilled to receive attestation from an organization that accredits so many
organizations across the country," said Richard L. King, Chief Executive Officer of
Annie malone. "Our staff has worked hard to do the right things for the right reasons in
providing quality service. This accreditation encourages us to continue that service," he
said.
COA is an international, independent, not-for-profit accrediting body that was
incorporated as a separate legal entity in August 1977, as an accrediting body of social
and behavioral healthcare services. COA's mission "promotes best-practice standards;
champions quality services for children, youth, and families; and advocates for the value
of accreditation".
The COA accreditation process involves an in-depth examination of the organization's
compliance with best practice standards. The process includes a review of organizational
standards including human resources, financial and risk management and continuous
quality improvement as well as thirty-nine service standards. The service standards
address a full array of child, family and behavioral healthcare services including financial
and debt management, employee assistance programs, mental health counseling,
substance abuse treatment, foster care, health service areas and a host of other service
areas.
COA is endorsed by leading consumer and professional groups and by many regulatory

Annie Malone Announces Grand Opening of Annie M. Cafe at City Hall
Cafe to offer Breakfast and Lunch items at City Hall Cafeteria
St. Louis, MO - The wonderful aroma of fresh pastries and home-made dishes will fill
the air in City Hall on October 15 when Annie M. Cafe opens its doors as the new
operator of City Hall's Cafeteria. The Cafe will offer breakfast, lunch, snacks and
selected specialty items on the lower level of City Hall. A ribbon-cutting ceremony at
10:30 am will mark the Cafe's grand opening.
Annie M. Cafe is a part of an entrepreneurial endeavor of Annie Malone Children &
Family Service Center, a social service agency that has served St. Louis for over a
century. The Cafe is an extension of Annie Malone's on-going food and catering service,
Annie M. Fine Cuisine. The food service provides nutritional meals for Annie Malone's children and for the senior residents of Homer G. Phillip's Senior Living Center. Annie
M. Fine Cuisine also caters lunches, dinners, receptions and special events for
individuals, area businesses and corporations.
A portion of the Cafe proceeds will be used to offset the costs of Annie Malone's
programs and services. Annie Malone serves more than 1,000 children and families,
annually, through its residential treatment program, family focus and parent enhancement
workshops, therapeutic school (Emerson Academy), transitional living program, daycare
and respite care services.
'We are excited about sharing our delectable secret with St. Louis,' said Richard L.
King, Chief Executive Officer of Annie Malone. "Annie M. Cafe is sure to satisfy your
palate without hurting your wallet or your pocketbook," he said.
The Cafe's breakfast menu will include pastries, fruit, hot breakfast sandwiches,
breakfast meats, and made to order omelets and pancakes. The lunch menu will include
chicken wings, hamburgers, fish sandwiches, polish sausages, salads and boxed lunches.
The menu will also include a 'Specialty of the Day'. Snacks, side items and assorted
beverages will also be available.
Annie M. Cafe is currently serving a limited offering of foods in the first floor rotunda of
City Hall. The Cafe is open for service Monday - Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Breakfast
is served 7:30 am to10:00 am and lunch is available 11:00 am to 2:30 pm. For more
